Watch out! - 17 Aug 2006

I would really think twice about buying this type of mp3 player. I've used up two in less than a year! The first one (a 512mb one) died after I attempted to upgrade the firmware (using the correct procedure). The second one broke within six months. This time, it was due to the actual quality of the player, the fiddly bit on the top just stopped responding. Also, the manual I received for the second player seemed to be for the wrong model and was written in a free-online-translator sort of way (ie. pretty bad English)! The battery was terrible and the earphone is also pretty weird. So, I'd just like to warn potential buyers to think twice about buying this mp3 player (and others like it).

This product certainly seems good value for money at first glance. However, once you start playing about for a while you see some shortcomings.
1) The maximum volume is not very loud at all;
2) There is quite a bit of background noise (that is not on my recordings as they are fine elsewhere);
3) There are no playlists - it seems to go alphabetically by album or completely random, depending on your selection.
4) The menu is easy to work out but a bit cumbersome.
5) The headphones went straight in the bin!
Then again, for that price you should not expect the performance and features of a nano and it does double as a USB memory stick.
