An MP3 you can count on... - 05 Sep 2007

I have had my Ipod mini 2 years now, and i have to admit it hasn't let me down. I have been tempted so many times to upgrade, but what usually stops me is the fact there is nothing wrong with the ipod i allready have. Ok, so the battery probs only lasts about 12 hours now, and the earphones provided with all ipods are totally rubbish (i have been through 6 earphones in the last 2 years, i also did not buy the apple ones again once they had broken), but i have had no trouble listening to music when i feel like it. I think the mini is the most sturdy ipod there is (i have dropped it many times, and i only get the odd scratch), and it is the best value for money. Its a shame they do not sell them any more, so the next best thing is the 2nd generation ipod nano (first generation is the worst ipod ever)!!
So nearly 5 Star - 11 Jul 2006

Unfortunately my silver mini broke after about 9 months (my fault it doesn't survive a 3 foot drop) but after having a nano for a month i'm really missing my old ipod mini, it doesn't have a colour screen and it doesn't weigh as much as a feather but the mini is much less fragile and the battery life is suprisingly much much better considering its an older model. If you want to buy an ipod but unsure between a nano or a mini remember just because the nano is newer doesn't mean it's better!
Good MP3 player, when it works... - 05 Jun 2006

I like the iPod mini. Here are the areas most important to me, and how they were on the iPod mini:
Design: 10/10 Everyone knows that apple has excellent designers, and the ipods are another example of this. The ipod mini has no real design faults, except maybe that the clickwheel tends to get a bit dirty. I like the fact that it has a hard metal casing to protect it from falls - its nice to know you can put it in your pocket without breaking it. This is one of the advantages it has over the nano
Connecting to PC: 4/10 This was the worst bit - The stupid thing just wouldn't connect to my PC. In my quest to make it do so, I:
-lost all my saved files
-got rid of my graphics card
-lost my sound
-rebooted my hard disk.
Then I found that it would connect fine if I unplugged my internet modem!! Highly irritating. Since then it's worked fine.
Space: 9/10: For me, 4 GB is more than enough for my entire music collection - I only just take up 1 GB. However, people with more music may want more space.
User Interface: 9/10: Navigating around the ipod is incredibly easy and even fun. The click wheel ensures easy scrolling down and increasing volume, and if you read the instructions, then it's easy to switch the backlight on and off, and to even play games like that "parachute", relatively easily.
Battery life: 7/10: It seems to have enough battery life, although it does go down slowly when its switched off, which is annoying. It's not good for long holidays away from a computer, because even if you dont listen to it, it still loses battery.
Overall:9/10: A brilliant little MP3 player with easy navigation on it, just let down by the problems with connecting it, and a bit by the battery life.
Good for a few months. - 17 Feb 2006

For Christmas in 2004 I was given an iPod mini (4GB version) by my parents. I was amazed by how good the sound quality was and how easy it is to use. The software, iTunes, is fantastic and incredibly simple to use after a few trial runs with lots of different options including a range of radio stations. However, after the "Honeymoon" period of 4-5 months I began to notice some faults with my iPod. The main issue was that the battery life, which is supposed to be around 8 hours, was decreasing with every week it seemed. Also, the screen frooze on a number of occasions, causing a lot of agrovasion. After around 9 months of having an iPod mini, the battery was lasting only an hour at best after 8+ hours charge. It has continued to do this for 2 months. Now, after 14 months, the iPod has finally died and does not even turn on. I have asked other people who have owned iPod mini's and they all experience the same problems as me, even the larger capacity iPod's seem to do the same. In my opinion, do not go for the brand name, as Apple certainly have not done themselves justice. Go for something with a lot more reliability, like a Creative Zen, or Sony Walkman, which I have recently purchased and have experienced no problems at all, except the software is rubbish!
Summary: DONT GET AN IPOD IF YOU WANT TO LISTEN TO MUSIC!!!
this ipod was not brand new! - 10 Jan 2006

the ipod was not delivered within the specified time although it came quite quickly, also it was obviously not brand new as advertised because all packets had been opened and the ipod and headphones were marked and not in perfect condition, other than that the ipod works fine and overall i am pleased with it!
