As an analogue-loving audiophile I've never bothered with compressed music except for ATRAC versions of my vinyl albums and CDs to play on the move. When the 160 Gb pod arrived I realised there was no need to compress the audio at all so it might actually sound alright ! What it comes down to in the end is the quality of the Digital to Analogue converters in the device and not using any form of compression. Apple seem to have deployed quality converters on this model so you can get very nice sounds out of this iPod and of course the interface is Apple loveliness as usual. This model is the closest Apple have got to a 'hi-fi' ipod so far and so gets my vote.

I have had this new ipod since Christmas and am pretty dissappointed with it. It seems to have a habit of freezing mid song and then continuing a few seconds later. It also seems to have the inability to find the correct letter on the album search, the click wheel search always seems to bring up albums starting with the letter next to the one actually displayed on the screen.
I queried these faults with apple and actually sent the ipod away only to get it returned and told there was nothing wrong with it (they actually said the ipod passed all their tests).
It seems that apple will only fix ipods that have a fault that fits into their 5 specific categories of faults (none of which my fault fitted into). I now appear to be stuck with a glitchy ipod which apple aftercare will not do anything about...great.

I am a long time apple computer and ipod lover. Am onto my 3rd mac computer and 2nd ipod. I had 3rd gen 40gb ipod which was full so my other half got me the 16o and he took the 40. The ipod itself is brilliant lots of room and all teh things i loved about the old one but with newer sleeker looks.
why the 3 stars, well because apple are greedy and charge teh earth for necessary accessories. My old top of the range 40gb came with case and dock with charger. This top of the range 160gb comes with neither. What on earth use is a usb computer charger, I can't carry my computer everywhere with me. So I thought no problem I can use the old ipods dock and charger. Well No I can't teh new ipod will not accept a charge from it.
Much as I love the product for such an expensive item to come with no charger is a disgrace.

I do like my new shiny silver 160GB Ipod. Sounds and looks great in my Shiny new Klipsh STX (check these out for a docking station with speakers). It arrived nice and quick on free super saver delivery, don't bother to pay the extra for faster delivery, you may as well go to the high-street if you are in a hurry. Very pleased with the service.
I dropped a star cos of Apple though...
Linux support please and some decent headphones. Perhaps make the games an optional download rather than preinstall them, we dont all want games. A nice cloth case that will polish the unit as well. I find the menus a bit clunky, but will get used to them I guess.
150GB is closer to the truth!
A great bit of kit though, if you have lots of music and you want it all easily portable. Photo's and vids as well (if you want). There is currently no real competitor for capacity, quality etc, in a unit this small (in my opinion)
Did I mention. Some decent headphones would be nice!!

Everything about Apple's products oozes effortless beauty and quality throughout and the new iPod continue this tradition. From the moment the iPod is placed in your hands you know you are handling something special. The packaging is a pleasure to use and open and this continues as you use the product. The simplicity and beauty do not diminish but rather aid the use and function of the iPod.
This is my third iPod and I have never been let down or had cause to look at any alternative.
If there is one thing lacking (and it's the only thing I have come across after 2 months of use) it is the cloth sleeve of previous models. This never did anything other than protect against light scratches so is not a great loss but my advice is order a protective case at the same time to keep those looks that you spend your hard on money on.
