Shuffle is a winner for me! - 16 Mar 2008

Having considered getting an iPod Shuffle for a while, I was recently surprised at the new low price (probably because the 2GB was about to appear) so bought one for use at the gym, plus a Nano for my husband and I to share when travelling etc. The Shuffle has proved to be excellent for gym use. It is very light, the earphones - which I thought might be a problem - are surprisingly OK and do stay in without any problems during cycling, the cross trainer and treadmill/running. There isn't a screen, but if you buy it knowing this then it's fine. For workout purposes, I have put tracks on it from my own CDs - tracks that I know energise and inspire me to have a great workout! I either work through the tracks as they play, or 'shuffle' them and get a good mixture of tracks which is brilliant. You don't need to look at a screen anyway if you're working out!! I have struggled with transferring tracks on to both the Shuffle and Nano, and found it to be very time consuming, but once it's on there that's it. Just switch on and enjoy!! :o)

love the colour, love the size, love everything about this little purple mp3 player. sound quality is excellent, and have never had any problem with the headphones falling out. the battery lasts ages. took me a while to get used to itunes but find it easy peasy now.

I have just bought this item as a gift and sat down to set it up for the recipient. Firstly, the website given on the first page to start the process did not exist. So, with no guidance I went to the "full features guide" site named on the first page. I went into the manual for help which mentioned on page 30 (of 35) that to register the iPod I would have to install iTunes onto my computer. This I proceeded to do only to find that I would need a Broadband connection (which incidentally I cannot receive where I live). So I clicked "download the installation" to see what would happen if I tried to download anyway. A download time of more than five hours was displayed... They must be joking. The gift will be given, and the recipient can choose what to do, but it has certainly deterred me from purchasing this kind of item for myself and it might end up being returned. New technology is only worthwhile if it saves time, not wastes it. I think I'll stick with my Walkman.

Hype well deserved. - 24 Oct 2007

It's not often I give in to the latest trends or fashions, but this one slip up turned out to be a winner.

The sound quality is fantastic and it's so light I barely notice I'm wearing it. The head phones are comfortable and the snazzy purple is cool. Now those long walks home are more fun.
I'm glad I gave in this time.

At the time of writing this review there are 68 others already on here, but I thought I would tell you of my own experience with the ipod shuffle.

I go the gym and used to have a MP3 player - just a basic "memory stick" type that I plugged into my computer to recharge and I could drag & drop songs onto. Unfortunately it died so it was time to look for a new one. Now I was undecided whether to buy a basic model by a less well known company, or go for a leading name. It seems to me that if you're prepared to go for a relatively unknown manufacturer you can get a basic mp3 player for half the price with twice the memory, but eventually after much deliberation I plumped for the apple ipod shuffle, swayed by a combination of the reputation of apple & (hopefully) a better build quality.

I have had it just over a week now and I think I have made the right decision.

Yes, there is no screen, but I knew that when I bought it. I know from my prior experience at the gym that I just tend to switch it on and let it play so I didn't really need one. Also, I have a mobile phone that takes pictures, plays videos, games etc and I hardly use any of those features so I figured I wouldn't need a screen to watch tiny videos on. The earphones are great - several reviwers say they fall out but I've used mine on the treadmill, rower, cross trainer, exercise bike and wave machine and they've stayed in throughout! I've got about 14 hours out of it before I had to recharge which is impressive, and although initially I missed the simplicity of the "drag & drop" method of my old mp3 player, its just a question of getting used to itunes and once you have it seems simple enough.

All in all, an excellent purchase and having never had any previous experience of apple or ipods I am very pleased with my purchase.
