Great radio if you have a good signal, - 07 Feb 2008

Given the previous comments on this and my experience of DAB radios to date, I had zero expectations of this product. But it was a good price and looked portable, so I thought I'd give it a try.
So imagine how pleased I was to see it was half the size of the smallest radio I have managed to buy before, which means it is genuinely portable, and most important both the DAB radio and MP3 works well.
Please be aware however that this and any DAB radio will only work where there is a good signal and some need you to have line of sight to the aerial. In Hastings the signal is excellent and as I can see the aerial out of my windows it works all round my house. It even works in my car when I drive round the town and on the train, which is more than my old one did. However as soon as I leave the town it stops working until you get out of the country and nearer to other major towns where the aerials are.
Another point to watch is like other DAB radios the battery life is short so you will need to buy some rechargeables for it. It is better than my other DAB radio though as it takes standard AA rather than having an internal rechargeable battery.
So if you are near an aerial and have a good signal great, otherwise stick to a conventional radio.
If it had FM as well as DAB I'd have given it 5 stars
A good combination of DAB and MP3 but overall Poor - 25 Jan 2007

Reason I bought it, was it had both MP3 and DAB.
The software that it came with never worked properly. I was able to record songs on it only once with XP. The PC refuses now to acknowledge that it exists on the end of the USB.
I have had more sucess with Windows Vista then XP, though Vista can not see the original tracks put on via XP. It does play all the tracks installed via both by XP and Vista, but I am unable to erase the XP tracks.
The controls on the Radio side are very fiddly, you keep erasing your set Progs if you tweak the controls wrongly. Scanning stations and saving them is a nightmare.
I have a few Mains and portable DAB radios and this is the worst for reception in London, forget about listening on buses or trains.
A better type of headphones might help this.
The only good thing is the Prestel like messages that give news and sport.
