Not too bad player but hard to manage music - 03 Feb 2008

I have had this creative mp3 player for about 2-3 years, so its not a new player, I found it hard to manage my music as when I selected the artists name in the menu only some of the songs from that artist would show and others didn't. I had sync problems with my zen with the PC as it sometimes would crash my PC and lock up and I had to reinstall all the drivers and software before it would work. This happened on 2 different pc's on several occasions. Menu looks dull and hard to navigate. Yesterday I was upgrading my firmware and I knocked the lead and it just fell out, now it only enters recovery mode and tells me to run the recover tool off the creative website, Big problem is the recovery software for the pc doesn't recognise the player so I have now a mp3 player as useful as a brick. I have now got an Ipod and I find it a lot easier to navigate and manage my music with. Cheers.
very hard to beat - 12 Dec 2007

Everyone has pretty much said all that needs to be said so i'll just sumarise
i have had mine for over 2 years now while my mates have gone through endless i-pods that have either frozen or the battery power has significantly fallen- mine still gives me 20 hours (at full volume) at worst.
I have also noticed the volume to keep it's quality at the highest setting
which is something that always put me off the i-pods and speaking from what i've seen -could be coincedence with recording levels- but it appears the zen can actually achieve a higher volume
Admitidly it is pretty hefty, which is one of the first things people say when they see it, but if you go on a long trip and you're one of those who 'needs' music then you're going to want something with the practicality of the zen if you're willing to throw away the lack of aesthetic quality.
Definately, definately get this product, it's lasted me over two years already, never letting me down and costs a lot less than the i-pods.
great mp3 player - bad creative - 01 Dec 2007

this mp3 player is a little beauty. quick start up. never freezes. loads of memory. crystal clear sound. easy to upload tracks. a little beauty.
except beware: if you are thinking of upgrading your PC to windows vista, note that creative, in their unblinkered corporate greed, have apparently "decided" not to release a Vista-friendly driver download.
so this £150-odd worth of equipment becomes useless.
do your research first. make sure either that your mp3 player is vista compatible or that you do not intend to upgrade your PC to vista. because i guarantee that creative will NOT give a damn if you do.
AMENDMENT: if you read the comments below you will discover how to upgrade your creative zen touch firmware driver to make it compatible with vista. i managed to do it ... eventually.
It's OK - 29 Oct 2007

I've had Zen touch for about 4 years now and despite the fact it's lasted very well I have had some bad experiences with it. I found that about 4 months after the waranty ran out the hard drive failed and needed to be replaced, which despite the fact it was very annoying to have to do, was more or less easily done, however i could not get a replacement from creative. Other problems over time have started to emerge, at the moment 2 of the buttons no longer work and the touch-scroller often stops functioning properly and requires 'a swift bash' in order to get it working again, a problem which has been steadily getting worse. However the interface is very easy to use as is the software for putting on and coyping off music. The most impressive feature is the battery life which over 4 years lasts as long as it did as it was when it was new. Overall i would say it's lasted extreemly well and despite the fact it wears out over time it has out lasted most people's ipods, just be wary that it might need to be opened up and prodded around a bit when it starts to die on you.
Pro's and Con's - 24 Oct 2007

I bought this a few years ago.
I still use it, I keep it in a bag I have which has speakers in.
[Osiris bag.. check it out.. expensive but impressive.]
So because of that.. the weight and size isn't an issue, because the bag itself is pretty big and uncomfortable. But it's good for taking to the park or to parties without music.
I used to take it to work and college.. it's not one for the pocket unless you have a strong belt on, and even then, comfort is an issue.
It's ok in a strap bag..
This is deffinitely more of a portable music harddrive.
As it takes awhile to find what you want to play, the touch slider can be painful to use when you just want to go up one track. Or in the cold.
PROS:
Battery lasts forever...
Lot's of music...
Strong.. like an Ox.. it's burly..
Reliable.. you could use it in the arctic.. and just lay it down in the snow.
CONS:
Heavy. I dreamt about this player and it was actually a brick in my dream.
Huge, it's not wearable, it came with a clip but anything you clip it to is pulled down [pockets fold, trousers fall]
Software, hard to use, too many icons and nonsense, slow to organise your albums, and to top it off.. doesn't work on Vista. So I can't add new albums right now.
Touch, fiddely, sporadic, makes it a hassle to nudge up or down just one track [want to move up one, tap, moves up three.]
Accessories, EQ isn't anything special, shuffle all button on front is handy but just as much a hassle when accidentally triggered, as you have to manually put it back to normal play.]
Thinking of selling and getting a smaller model, both in size and Gb.
But has served me well and still is. Despite the Vista issue.
