Creative Zen V 2 Gb - 09 Feb 2008

I bought one of these 3 months ago and have had no problems at all since I first got it. Sound quality is very good and I also got the full set of mains adaptors, and those worked fine too. My only criticism is that it should be sold with a mains charger as standard. I just got the Travel Sound docking speakers-excellent sound quality for their size.
Good for kids... - 31 Jan 2008

I bought this for my 10 year old daughter a while back and it's still going strong despite having travelled here, there and everywhere with only a modicum of care!
It is absolutley tiny, but easy to use and the screen is nice and bright, though small obviously!
I wouldn't recommend this for music enthusiasts, spend a little extra on a 4Gb iPod Nano if you want better listening and video quality, but for kids or a holiday spare, this is a great little player
* Note - my daughter uses Windows XP. Check before buying if you use Vista as the software may not work *
Looked good, but incredibly disapointing - 04 Nov 2007

Ok, so like many people, i was looking for an interesting, cheap, oringinal alternative to the ipod nano. At first it looked brillant, BUT ITS CHEAPER FOR A REASON.
When I got it i was very pleased with it, my single gripe at that point being that the headphones didn't stay in my ear too well.
Then I tried to put some music on it of course, and it did not work at all with vista, neither would recognise the other was connected.
Luckily it worked on my dads work pc, but that wasted loads of time and stopped me being to buy individual tracks off the internet (which I had been looking forward to).
So for a month or 2 I was rather pleased with it, until the ominous red ines started permanently appearing on the screen. Less than an hour after that the whole thing froze completely, and wouldn't even respond to me putting a needle in the reboot hole-thing.
Then it went black and wouldn't turn on so now I am getting a refund (hopefully).
In short, if it works then you couldn't ask for more, but considering quite a few people have also had these sorts of problems, its too big a risk so don't get it.

Looks lovely and as this was my first foray into an MP3 I could not have got one that looked better. The only problem is that the book tells me how to get music into the zen from my CD but not how to erase it when I am sick of it. I have tried all the permutations of the word "erase" ie remove, delete, get rid of, bin. I still cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the music from the Zen into the bin. The Creative website is about as useful as a chocolate teapot. I think I may have to put this one down to experience and next time try something else
Lovely machine but ... - 26 Sep 2007

I've had my Zen for six months or so now and had been very pleased with it until recently. It looks great, is easy to use and the sound quality is superb. However a week ago it froze and, like others here, I just couldn't get it to re-start at all. The computer kept telling me the machine wasn't connected and the re-set button didn't seem to have any effect.
I was just about to take it back to the shop when I tried re-loading the software on my computer and - bingo - it all sprang to life again. It may be worth a try if, like lots of others, you're having the same problem.
I have absolutely no idea why this worked, but it did and my Zen and I are now happily reunited. Call it a flash of inspiration if you like but it was done one night when I couldn't sleep due to my husband's snoring so he ought to take credit really.
I agree with others - the machine is great while it works, but the user support when it doesn't is non-existent.
