Fantastic - 27 Dec 2007

After a decade of using CD players and brief try at mini disks this is a huge improvement. Its size which is larger than your average MP3 player is still a lot smaller and easier to fit in spaces than a CD player, so this fits snuggly in my trouser pocket. The screen as well is very well suited to playing back TV shows, I've not tried movies yet but it is a bright vibrant picture although a bit power hungry. Audio playback is great with a quick to navigate menu system and you can delete tracks on the player, no need to use your computer.
The compact flash reader is great for stealing photos off of my camera. I didn't even realise it had a card reader till it was delivered.
I can't really judge the software. I used it once and put all my music on the player and since then I've installed drivers on Linux and changed a few video files about.

Downsides: Screen won't turn off during playback unless the hold function is on. Supplied headphones are too big for my ears.

If I was to go for another MP3 player I would probably go for one of the smaller Creative Zens as I have barely used the video playback and I paid more than I should have when I just want to playback music. But this is still a great player with an abundance of features.

Great music, not so good for photos - 08 Dec 2007

As someone who is a complete technophobe and who ventured into the world of MP3 players with this purchase, I found this player extremely easy to use in conjunction with my laptop. It is intuitive, making it easy to download wma files from websites and also to rip CDs. I am still working out its full potential.

However, I cannot give it 5 stars as unfortunately, the quality of photos is not as good as I had expected it to be - and the photo viewer was actually why I bought the thing in the first place. My photos appear a little pixelated, although the ones that come with the player are sharp - so maybe it is something to do with me! It is also much bigger and heavier than other players, which was a price I was willing to pay to take advantage of the plug and play compact flash card viewer. Don't take it whilst you are jogging!

Ideal for the frequent traveller. - 16 Oct 2007

This is a wonderful piece of hardware and a great way to preserve your sanity if you're forced ( like me ) to spend large amounts of time sat in airport departure lounges.

The screen is crystal clear, the menu system is very easy to use and the whole thing just 'works'. I managed to watch two movies, a couple of episodes of The Sopranos and listened to a fair bit of music, all off the initial charge ( like anything that's powered by rechargeable batteries, you're best to leave it overnight to carry out it's initial charge ).

The only small niggle is that I have to convert DVDs to .avi files before I can then sync them onto the Creative. I'd have liked Creative to have written an app to make the whole thing seamless, but you can't have everything.

How much do I like this media player ? Well it was stolen a few days ago and I have no hesitation in replacing it, even at my own expense.

Awesome - 31 Aug 2007

The zen vision W is excellent, if you don't mind the size, then its a winner all the way.

Two brilliant things worth noting about this product:

* you can connect it to your TV and watch movies from it there.

* built in speakers

The headphones supplied aren't great though, so a small investment in some others are a good idea.

I love the zen vision W, and beats iPod by a long way, despite the price.

Super machine - great Amazon service - 01 May 2007

I bought a Creative Zen M and loved it - and decided to buy up to the "W" just before heading off to the Caribbean for a holiday. I managed to get past the initial Vista "Problems" (Creative have now released an updated version of their Management Suite) and loaded up a few hundred music tracks AND converted some DVD movies onto the machine with no trouble. Battery life was good, recharge tiem acceptable; picture is sharp, sound is a little too quite at times (but manageable) and it was easy to connect up to the TV set in our room so that we could enjoy some late night movies. Then ... DISASTER! The navigation button stopped working and all I could enjoy was one "looped" track. Fortunately - the holiday was virtually over by then. On our return I contacted Creative who suggested a few "fixes" which didn't work. They suggested I contacted the vendor (Amazon) to see if they woudld exchange the unit. Despite having bought it eight weeks previously - there was absolutely no quibble from Amazon - I returned the unit to them and in return they sent out a beautiful new unit. Now THAT is service!
