i currently have a creative zen micro and im running out of space on it to put more songs on it. this is getting frustrating as i have to find songs that i dont listen to that often and transfer onto the pc library. im now considering buying the 30gig creative zen vision and was wondering if it was difficult to put films on it or not? (from what ive read it is a good buy but then ive never used it) :)

Better than an i-Pod? - 15 Jun 2007

When my wife announced to me "I want an i-Pod" my heart sank; not because the i-Pod is an inferior piece of hardware I think their user interface is fantastic rather it's i-Tunes that causes the issues for me; as a piece of software I just do not like it, just my personal opinion. So I thought I'd better get her something as good as a i-Pod and I got this instead, in pink naturally!

When you first get the Zen my first piece of advice is to buy the charger and silicon case (available on Amazon) as it has to be said the charging times are greatly reduced if you use the charger as opposed to the USB and the protective case is worth it's weight in gold. I have to say it is a bit bigger and heavier than the i-Pod but only a bit and this is down to the battery on the Zen which it has to be said is far superior to that of the i-Pod. My wife has had the Zen for two weeks now and been playing music and watching videos quite merrily on it and other than plugging it in to sync with her laptop she has never had to charge the device and it's still showing half full. The battery life is pretty amazing on this unit.

The software provided by Zen is good as well; sync manager is very nice, easy to use and pretty self explanatory. The only real complaint would be that to get a DVD onto your Zen you have to first convert it to an AVI or similar and then transfer it with Zen's software and this is a time consuming process. The wait is worth it though as the picture quality is first rate on the device and you can watch a movie quite comfortably. User interface I have to say is not as smooth as the i-Pod but after a couple of days playing about with it you do get used to it but I'd say if you've never used an i-Pod before you'll take to it even quicker. Scroll pad is smooth and responds well to the touch and really is nearly as good as the competition.

I've saved the best to last the sound quality on this device is fantastic; really, really great. The sound is amazing I can not stress this enough, we're both very impressed by the output we get, even from the headphones included with the device.

Pros
Picture and Sound Quality
Ease of Use
Ease of File Transfer

Cons
Having to convert DVD's to AVI's or similar before transfer
Not as neat as an i-Pod

Overall
I think overall the minor cons are far outweighed by the superior pros. Battery life is fantastic, picture quality is better than any of the competition (in my opinion) and the sound output is amazing from such a small unit. If you're undecided about whether or not to buy an i-Pod I would have to say don't and give this a try, you won't be disappointed.

Another Little Gem - 03 Apr 2007

Having had a Creative Nano Plus 1GB for over a year, I decided I should treat myself to a larger capacity player (lack of time to change the music every week meant I was getting bored with the maximum 18 albums stored on it at any one time). I was going to get just an 8GB player (£90+) but then saw this little 30GB beauty at £130 (£30+ cheaper than the black version) and thought 'why not go the whole way for the extra money and get something that plays videos as well'. What a good decision that was!

I've only had it a week, so have not done too much with it, but it took around 15 minutes to load on 70 albums and my photograph collection, which was pretty amazing, and the radio tuned itself in seconds (although not many stations came up as I was in my office in the middle of London at the time). Can't comment on capacity at the moment, but I know the above has taken up approximately 4GB on the player (but that does include all the demos that Creative had on it and I've yet to delete).

Have not yet put any videos on, but aim to do that this weekend when I have more time, but the Creative demo videos are brilliant, with amazing colour and clarity and the small screen is great - thought it would be hard on the eyes watching something this small, but it's not, and I think that's because the quality is so good. Unlike other people, I've never had trouble with the Creative earphones, they fit well (perhaps I've got odd ears!) and the sound is good, even when you turn the volume up to maximum. Like other reviewers, I did find the controls a bit sensitive to begin with, but changed the setting to low and now find it OK.

I invested in a pink leather cover for my player (only £4+ from an Amazon supplier) - as it's in my handbag constantly and I didn't want it to get scratched - and a charger plug (again, only £4+) - which was well worth it as it only took just over 2 hours to completely charge the player from the mains (and it seemed to be taking ages doing this via my computer!). I don't know why Creative don't include a charger/adapter with the player, as it would seem a sensible thing to do.

What I like about Creative products is that you don't need a manual to work them, they are just so easy and, as a non-techie person, this is a real bonus I can tell you.

On the review for my Nano Plus I said I was a happy bunny and I'm pleased to say that, so far, I am again!!

Astonishing piece of kit! - 28 Feb 2007

I bought this for myself as a birthday present and I am not disappointed. This little marvel sends Apple's iPod to the bottom of the pile. It is colourful for a start. Has a great clear screen. Is easy to use and setting it up was a doddle. The software that it comes with leaves a bit to be desired but if you use it with Windows Media Player it works fine. I copied music, photo's and video's to it in minutes. It has a really weighty solid feel and you don't fear it slipping from your hand. The headphones could be better but thats a small gripe. Altogether I am thrilled with my purchase. This little beauty will keep me occupied for years.
