My favorite gadget - 22 Mar 2008

I bought the Zen around 2 months ago and have found everything about it brilliant the videos, radio, and music are all excellent. My downloads from Tesco have been very easy. I haven't downloaded an audio book or language course but hope they will work as well as the other downloads. Recently I bought the EP60 ear phones and find that the bundled ones are much better. This is my first MP3 player and after printing the instructions found that I understood it very well.

Do NOT buy this to replace a ZEN + !

my Zen + died last week- failure of battery to charge. Currys no longer stock them. the man on the desk said 'nah- MP4 players are the way things are going.' Nothing on the Creative website or Amazon seems to show that zen + is on its way out but, not wishing to seem old fashioned I opted for the 'ZEN'.

I've barely had it twelve hours and already I am hatching a dislike for it- it has no 'zen'- the design is utterly grace-less- even the font of the menus is unattractive. Goodness knows why it needs /nine/ different bits that click on the front, all of them small. The Zen + had two, and a neat little joystick- plus a volume control on the side. The ZEN has no seperate volume control.

Plus, it comes with no form of little drawstring-bag or protective sleeve. That's just mean.

Things can only get better.

Bought the zen a few weeks ago. Thoroughly impressed with the ease of use and quality of the product.

Uploading files is just a case of drag and drop. Changing files is really simple as it can be done by deleting from an external drive on the computer or on the Zen itself.

The image quality on the screen is excellent too. I have uploaded pictures from my hard drive and use them as wallpapers.

The memory is expandable and this means that the larger memory systems seem to be a bit of a waste of money.

The only slight drawback is the battery life which seems a little short.

Great picture and sound, and small, what else do you need? - 03 Mar 2008

I bought this mp3 player to replace my audio-only Sony. I owned a Creative Zen Jukebox about 4 years ago that was bulky, but sounded great. Additionally, not being one to follow trends I didn't want to be a slave to the 'pod!

The new Zen does not disappoint. Small enough to fit in a baby's hand, but has enough weight to give it a solid feel. The interface is very fast, taking only c. 3 seconds from switch-on to sound coming out.

The menus are simple to operate, and quick. Skipping from one track to the next (slow on the Sony) is sub 1-second. Looks-wise even the iPod fans agree it is smart looking although perhaps a little 'light'.

Gripes? Well, the supplied software isn't very intuitive, but it links up to Windows Media Player very effectively for drag and drop functionality so I use that. Additionally, the add-on SDHC slot does add extra memory capability but it's separate from the player memory, so there's a bit of to-ing and fro-ing needed to switch between the two. It's not like the two 'bits' of memory add together to make one 'bigger' memory.

I put vids on the SDHC card and music on the player memory.

The FM reception is on-par with mobile phone quality, ie not the best, plus there's an organsier and calendar which personally I would never use.

All in all a great product and at sub £70 a steal for the 4gb version.

Creative Zen - 01 Mar 2008

I bought the creative zen 4GB about a month ago as I had my other Mp3 player stolen. The zen was a nice with a clear screen. It was very easy download songs to the folder. I have had problems with it though, after running it for than a couple of hours it freeze up usually in the middle of playing a track and you can't turn it off. On the first ocassion I left it until the battery run out. The second time I found the reset button which is a small hole at the bottom of the player, you have to insert a safety pin in it to reach the switch but that seems to work every time so far. Apart from this glitch it was a good buy.
