5 Reviews for iRiver H10 6GB Colour HDD Player - Midnight Blue
Quirky, but generally quite good - 26 Mar 2007

I bought the iriver H10 after reading other favourable reviews here. The first thing I did was upgrade the firmware, by downloading the upgrading program from the iriver website and following the instructions on the website. That went smoothly enough. Even though I don't have the "correct" version of Windows Media Player it IS able to synchronise my music to the player. In addition to this, the computer recognises the player as a storage device, so the MP3 files can simply be copied onto it using the filesystem (Windows Explorer). However, the behaviour when connected to the computer is a bit temperamental. It randomly recognises it as either "iriver H10" or "MTP Device"; occasionally the device needs to be switched on in Universal Mass Storage mode to connect (the iriver website explains how to do this, you will need to do it anyway when upgrading the firmware). There is no way to "stop" the device when connected, so you just have to disconnect it, which seems to send the device into confusion for 30 seconds or so, then it's fine.
These issues aside, I've found it to be a usable device once you get the hang of it. The player has certain advantages over other MP3 players that encouraged me to buy it - value for money compared to an equivalent iPod; the fact that it comes with an AC adapter, so you don't need a computer to charge it (e.g. on holiday); the fact that the battery is replaceable and spare batteries are fairly cheap; the fact that you can download free firmware upgrades as they become available. The controls are easy to get the hang of. The sound quality seems quite good. One reservation was that it's not as pretty as an iPod, but I was surprised by how small and sleek it actually is. It seems pretty scratch-resistant and also comes with a protective rubber case.
Great little player - 25 Jun 2006

This piece of kit is THE business. My kids have the equivalent Sony and Creative Zen MP3 players, and this one is better than both. It is more menu friendly, lighter, slightly smaller, and better looking, oh, and its cheaper..! It comes with Sennheisser in-ear headphones which are excellent. The software is so simple to use, and with 'Plays for Sure' there is no problem downloading purchased tracks via Windows media player 10. It really is a teriffic device.
FANTASTIC - 25 May 2006

After spending hours comparing the different players I decided to go for this. ANd OMG i'm glad I did. It worked absolutely perfectly with my PC and the speed at which the music transfers is so quick. The sound is great. I haven't got a bad word to say - it's FAR superior to any IPOD i've seen. BUY IT!
Ignore the software! - 28 Apr 2006

With trepidation, I decided to plump for the iRiver, rather than following the crowd; and I have been pleasantly surprised.
After Amazon delivered very speedily, I unpacked my iRiver, and had some of my music on it in no time. My advice is to simply connect the player to your computer using the lead specified, and you will see "iRiver H10" come up in Windows Explorer under "My Computer". Then, any mp3 files you drag and drop in the music folder will be available for you to listen to on the player. Simple!
What I thought was a downside of this player was that you don't get to see the album art (image associated with the mp3). However if that image is saved as a jpg, either in the same directory as your mp3s or somewhere else, you can use the Browser function to view the image!
Iriver H10 - 18 Feb 2006

its a good player in genrall and all the features are great but the software iriver plus is terrible and impossible to use as you cant burn diretly from a CD onto the software as the H10 does not support the format needed to burn CD's directly on so you have to save it onto your PC first which is easier said than done as the instructions for doing that are usless . So to summaries the Iriver H10 is a good player but SEVERLEY LET DOWN BY BADLY DESIGNED SOFTWARE THAT IS VERY HARD TO USE that is nothing compared to itunes.
