5 Reviews for iRiver U10 2GB - Multifunction Media Player
Awesome device (but) - 17 Mar 2007

Really like my U10/Clix. It looks great, it's light, easy to use, and is overall good value.
It's a competitor to the ipod shuffle really. Although it's a little bit more expensive it has radio built-in and plays video. It's much lighter than the r3egular Ipod range.
Only gripe is charging it - I can't find a mains charger so have to leave the computer on overnight. If anyone's found a way round then please post another review. This is the only think i don't like about it so if it's not important, consider this a 5 star review!
(I did get a USB mains charger but when i plug it in it looks for a computer to connect to and, presumably, won't charge until it's found one)
Brilliant...Just Brilliant!! - 18 Sep 2006

I searched and searched for an MP3 player and eventually came up with this little beauty.
I'd obviously heard about the IPOD, but I didn't want to go with the flow so-to-speak. I wanted an easy-to-use device that does it all and after LOTS of research, I decided on the U10.
The fact that this can be used as a normal USB storage device as well as making use of the bundled software, Windows 'Media Player' and Real Player (which I use) and probably a whole load MORE programs swung it for me. I'm not sure what was meant by the guy who wrote the other review about it not being easy to transfer media to the player - it couldn't BE EASIER! The bundled software is really intuitive - making use of drag and drop techniques, Real Player recognizes the device after a quick and easy plug-in download, and Media Player transfers files by recognizing it as a USB device - if you don't want to use ANY software, then you can just drag and drop files into the drive via 'My Computer' in which the U10 shows up as a normal USB storage device - it really couldn't be simpler!
I owned a Net MD player before and the biggest gripe I had about that was the fact that you couldn't record things into it and then put them back onto your PC. Well, this little device does it all! It has a built-in microphone which records ANYTHING you like as an MP3 file (-you can set the quality), which you can freely transfer between the device and the PC - a MASSIVE selling point in my opinion as I know how many people hate the limitations of Net MDs.
People have complained about the storage capacity on the U10. WHY?! It holds 2GB and mine currently has just under 200 songs, voice recordings and a load of pictures stored on it, and it's still not even half-full! You could easily fit more than twenty albums onto the U10 so I hardly think 2GB is a problem! I don't think I'll ever fill it up!
You can look at reviews for ANYTHING you want on amazon, and you'll always find something that somebody doesn't like about a particular product and this might put you off buying it. What it boils down to is the fact that this is a quality bit of kit that does everything: Music, movies, games, pictures, FM radio, alarm clock etc., etc. and I HIGHLY recommend it! I am a fussy so-and-so and I'm really hard to please when it comes to gadgets and in NO WAY can I find fault with the U10.
Don't go with the Ipod flow - get one of these instead...MILES, MILES better in my opinion. You won't regret it.
Just what I wanted! - 14 Sep 2006

This player does it all. I wanted a player that would support MP3 and preferably Ogg for music - okay you can't get oodles of tracks on it but I only need a couple of CD's worth at any one time, I just change them regularly. The MP4 playback is brilliant. I run a dvd through 'iriverter' on the PC - a program I found after searching the web - no problem then just copy and paste into the video file, Great as i spend alot of time waiting for the children to come out of school/clubs (or for the children to watch so they don't get bored waiting for a sibling!) The U10 also stores books, either as MP3 audio or readable documents. And then there's the FM radio.... Need I say more. I couldn't be more pleased with my iriver U10!
Everything a portable media device should be and nothing more. - 11 Sep 2006

I've had my U10 for about 7 months now, during which time I've had no problems with it at all. I'm not a brand loyalty kind of person, this player is replacing my old Creative MuVo TX and iPod Mini.
I initially purchased it after being shown it by a friend, before being shown the U10 I was considering larger hard-drive based players but plumped for the U10 due to size and battery reasons. I was not disappointed.
The things I want in an mp3 player are for it to be small and comfortable in a pocket, to have a battery life that doesn't leave you high and dry on the train home at the end of the day, to have adequate storage space for a weekend away or several long return journeys cross country, to be simple and innovative to use without having to faff around with fiddly buttons and finally for it to not leave me bored. After all, all portable media is to relieve boredom ultimately. The U10 delivers without batting an eyelid.
More functions that you can shake a stick at, whilst still being easy to use everything without being confusing. Top marks there. The sound quality is phenomenal too, with a whole range of extra sound adjustments to keep even the pickiest of audiophiles happy. As for the video, the screen provides excellent sharp quality of video and photo despite the low resoltion thanks to the small dot pitch of the display.
The only gripe I do have is the lack of software that was provided. However, within minutes online I'd found the perfect software for the job. Iriverter lets you select which model of player you have and resizes and re-encodes video to match your player effortlessly, it's a matter of 2 or 3 clicks. It's very fast conversion software too with excellent quality results! Very good. As for photo software, Iriver Picture Plus allows you to create galleries easily and manage your photos on the U10 with no fuss at all.
Charging is fast too, especially considering the length of the battery life.
Overall, the U10 is simply a player that you use day after day with no fuss, no hassle, no worries, no effort... It's perfect. No really!

I deliberated for a long time before buying another MP3 player. My current player is a cheapy that does the job, in an unsophisticated sort of way. While the iPods have a huge reputation, good sound quality, and a great control system and the 'cool' factor, something irked me about all of their players, be it size, battery life issues, easily scratched screens etc. So I held off.
Then.. then I found the iRiver U10. I read review after review in as many places as I could find - all was good. So I bought one. It is an absolutely AMAZING little thing. The sound, my god, the sound is stunning! Clear even at the lowest volumes and for such a small thing, it's loudest volume is LOUD! Also, it's feature packed and, not that I need the other stuff, I'm glad it's there. FM Radio, voice recorder (the clarity!!), video player, picture viewer, and even plays Flash based games. The press screen control system is way cool too, and means there are hardly any buttons on it.
It is everything I want: - good looking, small, light, great (if slightly small) screen, STUNNING sound, great EQ settings, AWESOME battery life, 2.5 hours full charge time, fast transfer. The dock unit bundled in the box would have been a nice touch (it is a separate purchase), but having sampled the quality of the U10 I'm more than happy with my purchase.
I don't normally get excited about these things, but I'm sitting here in the office, working away, with my two-day-old iRiver U10 and my Sennheiser PX-200's on, listening to this thing and can't tell you what it has done to change my day. I don't care who else buys one - I've got mine!!
