I've had this MP3 player for about 10 months now, admittedly I was in a hurry so I bought one of the cheapest ones I could but this model doesn't offer anything special like voice recording or a radio. But the worst thing is that about 4 months ago, the wiring has deteriorated so sound only comes from one side. I thought it may be the ear phones but I've changed them and also played it through computer speakers and it is definitely the basic machine. So I've had about 6 months good use of this thing. I am not impressed.

This mp3 player is neat and compact, however beware the external control cable, as it is prone to breaking. Mine has stopped working after only about 4 months. If you're going to buy an mp3 player, get one with controls on the device, as the more fidley things are, the more prone they are to breaking

When i first got my Philips mp3 player, i found the instructions very easy to follow. I agree with the 2nd comment in that it has a reasonable battery life, and the outer casing is a very good idea.
However, I am not very impressed with it because the headphones are rubbish. Not Philips' fault I know; but there is no other way possible that you can pruchase any replacement headphones. If you want new headphones, you have to buy a new mp3 player. There is no way to get any new ones!!!!! so that ruined it for me.
If my headphones hadnt have broke, i think it would have been a reasonable mp3 player.
Disappointing MP3 player - 28 Jul 2005

For the money there are much better MP3 players available. This has very limited battery life, storage and will not fit most USB ports. It has 420MB, not 512 as it says. Only buy this if you are getting it at a really low price, and even then consider other players with much better features for only slightly more.

I bought this mp3 player last year before going on holiday, I opened the box and plugged the player into the computer, no longer had I plugged it in than the computer recognized it and I was adding songs to my mp3 player while it was charging up, and unlike the other review down the page says, it has excellent battery life thanks and when you use the external battery pack that is supplied with the product, it does NOT eat batteries like it says on the other review down the page and some other mp3 players. The only downside is that you have to remember to safely remove the hardware from your computer before unplugging the player as otherwise you will lose all memory on it. I found that it stored about 10 albums with a bit rate of 128, you can get more than this if you lower the bit rate but I really couldnt be bothered, its not hard to do at all if you want to do it. The player worked perfectly after being dropped, kicked, swimming in the sea (although it did have to dry out for an hour or two) and sat on. Its extremely lightweight too, you hardly realise that its around your neck on the cord that is provided, I found that the ear pieces were very comfortable too. One thing that bugged me was that I couldnt simply skip to the song that I wanted and that I had to skip through all the other songs before arriving at the destination that I wanted. I recommend this for a person who is going on a day trip or a holiday who wants to take a few cds with them but not on bulky cds. Its great for the kids too, keeps them quiet on the long roads! All in all a very very good and reliable mp3 player. Thanks Philips!
