Great product - terrrible support and software! - 19 Dec 2007

I purchased this one year ago for my wife as she is a keen runner. In principle I thought: specific product / big brand. But she has had issue after issue with the software: cannot sync / does not see the player...Now I understand that SONY have moved to Windows Media software for all future products! So my advice is look elsewhere, as the software is not supported and the device has been off the SONY shelves for a long while.

Not great - 14 Jul 2007

I'm a big Sony fan and this is the worst Sony product I have bought by far.

The battery life is poor and the jog wheel is too sensitive so that it turns itself on in your bag and runs itself flat all the time.

You can only recharge it via a USB too.

When you are using it, the jog wheel clicks out of the 'lock' position quite easily and will change tracks and albums whilst in your pocket.

However, do like that it's light and has a pedometer which makes it ideal for taking out running...that's about it.

Sony are great. This product isn't.

firstly have to say the actual player is very very nice; does what it says on the box, good sound and easy to use whilst running etc. BUT Sony seem to force you to use their connect software which is diabolical; slow cumbersome and restrictive. you are limited to the extremely paranoid licensing software - so unless you reload all you cd's -you can't play them (and as for downloaded music you can forget it). so your left with the options of buying it from connect; more limited range of music eg; no ACDC (plenty from Sony label funnily enough) and then £1-2 more expensive than alternative outlets. download is slow and the whole program freezes while you download. I have had several moments where i have actually had my card in my hand, ready to pay but the process has been so obstructive i've chosen to download from someone else burn and re-rip in preference.
and no I can't seem to get it to work with other players (WMP WMA Itunes)

Lovely device shame you can't use it.

very good - 26 Mar 2007

The sound quality is very good - better than an i-pod in my opinion. The player seems very robust as I have dropped it on a hard floor without breaking. Works very well for running and other sports activities. The functions are easy to use although you should read the pdf instruction document that comes on the cd that enables the Sonicstage software. As for recharging, the players comes without a mains recharger (only a cable to recharge via a computer), but I have a number of usb rechargers (for my blackberry and Motorola V3 mobile phone) and both recharge this machine without a problem. I flew long haul last week and the battery lasted 14 hours with a few stops. The one thing you have to get used to with this player - there is no on/off switch. I just stop the player playing and then put it in "hold" mode. I had to get used to this and it may cause some people to think the battery life is less than claimed.

OK but could be better - 14 Feb 2007

This is a good little player, easy to use with good sound quality.
Two problems with it are:
1) It's only possible to charge the battery via a USB port on a computer. (there is no charger supplied)
2) The Connect software supplied is very cumbersome, demanding of your computer's resources and therefore slow.

BTW I doubt if I've ever had the 18hrs of the claimed battery life. 12hrs would seem more accurate to me.
