Good mp3 player for the price - 24 Jun 2007

I'm only an occasional Amazon customer, so I didn't realise the supplier Hughes Direct would not use the Royal Mail, unlike Amazon. This meant a 10 mile trip out of town to collect. Now I hear Amazon may be changing carrier, so if you don't happen to be home when a package arrives, God knows where you'll have to go to collect.
As to the product, I like it. It may be more complicated to get to grips with than an i-Pod, but I prefer the look, and the sound quality is excellent. The Sonic stage software is a down side. It is very slow to load new songs, or even just to delete. I have used much cheaper mp3 players before which are much more straightforward to load. It also took some time to understand the illustration showing how to advance by album, not song. You need to pull out the little wheel on the end!
For me the great advantage is the playing time of the USB battery, which must be over 10-12 hours, unlike the previous players which needed AA battery changes every couple of hours. I could only fit a fraction of my CD collection on, but I don't see the point in putting everything on this type of player, as you have to scroll through every album/song to find something specific. 2 gigs is plenty. The FM radio for me is as useful as the mp3 player, although when travelling recently I couldn't for the life of me work out how to tune in to new stations! In all, well worth the price I paid.
I don't understand the other reviewer's comment about corrosion. You have to make sure the USB lead fits snugly, or there will be no connection. Like any electronic product, I think it's probably not a good idea to leave it out in the rain!
Unfortunately my player was nicked by a pickpocket while on holiday, and I see the price of a new one has gone up 20 quid!
There is a fault on this item - 03 Jun 2007

The slot at the end of this item to connect to your computer does not have a seal and will therefore allow moisture in. After a month you will find you cannot recharge or connect to it because the contacts have coroded! Previous models had them, why not this
Nice one Sony

Ok, where to start..... The reason I was looking for an MP3 player was to use it in the gym and for running outside. Although these activies don't warrant a large storage capacity, I went for the 2gb version for the 'just in case' scenario (like going on holiday and wanting a good variety/selection of music etc). This little player can easily store 30+ albums on it. Now, to the item itself...
The item is not much bigger than it's picture on the web site (a bit like a large cigarette lighter). It is the first MP3 player that I've owned, so I don't know how it compares to other players. It certainly isn't an item that you can pick up and work straight away!
Reading the instructions are a must for both understanding how to get the best out of the item, as well as understanding the software packaged with it. It took me about 10 minutes to get to grips with the MP3 instructions and about the same with the Sonic Stage software.
I noticed in other posts regarding Sonic Stage that the software gets some terrible reviews. I must agree that it would be so nice if you could just grab and place items directly onto the player straight from your computer/laptop (instead of running it through the software first). But to be honest, it really isn't that difficult a chore.
I can honestly say that I got to grips with the player within 30 mins, and was happily transfering files. The quality and build of the player is excellent (Sony of course). It has also survived it's first trip to the gym with no problems; it wasn't until this test that I was going to post a review.
In summary, this is a fantastic little item that I think is well worth the money (got it from [...], very fast delivery!). Extremely Happy!!!
