I've been using this player for the past week or so, and have no complaints at all. From a software point of view I never installed the supplied connect cd, I downloaded Sonicstage 4 straight from sony and this works well.
It's also worth downloading firmware version 3 from their website, this adds AAC playback too.
Well pleased with my purchase :-)

I got my sony walkman just a few days ago, so I'm still getting used to the player but here are my initial thoughts.
Firstly, the player itself is very funky looking with lovely curved edges and a bright (black'n'white) screen. When switched on the buttons gradually start to glow and after a few seconds slowly fade again which looks sexy. It's well constructed and weighty (though comfortably so). Being a HDD player is bigger than a flash player but still small enough to comfortably fit in your pocket. The software on the player itself does the job but isn't anything special. Overall I'd give the player itself 4 out of 5 stars.
However, the accompanying software is only compatible with PCs with 256MB of RAM (or more) and running Windows XP or 2000. I didn't know that, it's not indicated here on Amazon, and guess what? My machine's quite old and doesn't have that spec. Thus the bundled CD doesn't even run on my machine so I can't even try the Connect software! Luckily you can download SonicStage from Sony's website but, having a dial-up internet connection, this takes forever to install. Sadly you can't just drag and drop MP3 files onto the player and listen to them (like you could with my old player).
In summary, decent HDD player (4/5) but let down by the required software (0/5). Ensure you have a decent specced PC before purchasing - otherwise try something else.

i've had this mp3 player for a couple of weeks now and really love it.i have had other players before and found they are harder to use, as you can look up the playlists etc whilst playing your original choice in music on the sony.
i found the software simple and easy, loading over 1000 tracks in a few hours fom my c.d. collection with no hassle dispite hearing stories of problems.
i use this player in a great deal of different situations from the gym, to sitting with background sound to chill out to and have found it has great sound, no jumping and a good battery life.
the player itself is really easy to use, you only need to read the instructions once as it is based on the same systems as a mobile phone, so it all feels familiar from the start. The looks are cool with the hidden screen, is nice and small to fit in your pocket comfortably and seems fairly robust as i have dropped it a couple of times with no ill effect in performance or looks.
the only thing i can fault is the earphones, they have good sound, but this style does'nt fit my ears and hurt. it could also have done with a case to protect it from keys etc in your pockets.
all things considered i have given this player 5 stars as it has good sound looks good and is good value for money with many extras available, you won't be disapointed.

I recieved this for my birthday a few months ago,and have no problems with it during that time. The Connect software that comes with it is very simple to use, and converted all my music files on my computer into a suitable format, to save me the hassle. It is easy to understand, and doesn't break very easily (having found this out from experience!). The choice of so many colours is very good, and the battery lasts for a long time. Definetly a good choice, and many people have asked me how much it is, where i got it from etc.

Although the player is sylish and sounds fantastic, I just can't get past how bad the software is! We bought ours direct from our local sony centre, unfortunately they wouldn't take it back and give us a refund.
I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone, it is just too frustrating to use.
