5 Reviews for Toshiba Gigabeat MEGF10 10GB Digital Audio Player
Very good player - 26 Mar 2006

After selling my iPod, I bought the 10GB version as I needed a player to work with Napster To Go. Charging was very quick and no need to install anything. However it took a good few hours to transfer about 1400 songs using Windows Media Player 10. It may be quicker with the gigabeat room software, not sure. No album artwork can be transferred with WMP10, which is a bit of pain, but negligible. The headphones are poor, I picked up some Sony ones for about £6 from John Lewis, excellent value. Bass isn't great, even with the Bass++ setting. But all in all, this is an excellent player. The Touch Plus system took me a little while to get the hang of, but once I got to grips with it, I found it is just as good as the Apple Click Wheel. This is much better value than an iPod, so buy this.
Who needs an Ipod??? - 11 Feb 2006

All I can say is excellent, very quick set up, extremely easy to transfer files across, good battery life and compared to apple products of a similar price better storage capacity. I've seen my mates' ipods and there's no way I'd swap my tosh for theirs'. Highly recommended.

I bought the 20mb and a friend bought the 10gb Gigabeat -
We are both delighted. It's very easy to connect the Gigabeat to a pc using the neat cradle provided. This cradle recharges the GB and is used in conjunction with the GB software (Gigabeat Room) to transfer music from the pc to the GB - an easy and very fast process.
I particularly like the way the Album art transfers accross to the GB so that you can choose to see the artwark as you select which album to play and, if you like see the artwork while the tracks are playing. The 20gb stores literally hundreds of CDs - far more than I'm likely to have in my CD collection ! However, you can also store photos on the GB and then view these on the big, clear screen - slideshows can be easily set up.
By connecting the device to a usb port, you can use it as a (quite fast) portable, external hard drive for storage of any kind of computer files. I now use it to back up and transfer important files from my laptop.
Back to music....you can choose to use MS Media Player 10 instead of Room, if you prefer but I found that Room was easy to use and faster that MP 10. As you'd expect, playlists are easy to set up (you do this on the pc though) and there's a bookmark facility so you can quickly mark (whilst track is playing) then later select & play your favourite tracks. Sound quality is very clear and excellent in my opinion - I'm hearing new sounds in some of my favourite music and it feels like I'm listening to it for the first time!
The Plus sensor control is intuitive and much better than buttons when you get used to it. Toshiba have provided some customisation features so you can change some of the functions of controls suit your own preferences.
Obviously, you can also use GB for playing audio books - these are great for long journeys, or when you're running, or working out at the gym.
It looks great as well !
Any faults - well, at first I thought that you couldn't transfer music files back from the GB to the pc (because when they're on the GB they're in encrypted format. Not a big beal - but an irritation. Then I took a look at one of the forum sights and discovered that you can use MS Media Player 10 to drag and drop files / folders back to the pc and automatically they're converted back to mp3 format - great ! So........
I don't have any chriticisms at all !
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !
Fantastic MP3 player would recommend - 19 Jan 2006

This is my first MP3 and I did a fair amount of research before deciding on this one. I was tempted by the 20gb one but this one is such a good price and I didn't REALLY need the extra space!
I have had the item for 4 days and I have to say it's fantastic (not that I have had another player to compare it with).
The big screen is great, the control pad is easy to use and not too oversensitive.
I have plugged in my own Sony headphones and the sound is now vastly improved, although it wasn't bad with the items own headphones.
I found the software Gigabeat room really easy to use and the riprec is brilliant downloading a CD in just a few mins. Downloading direct from Windows Media Player was easy too.
The only grouch I have with my player is that the battery is meant to hold up to 16 hours worth of charge and so far after fully charging it I have used it for less than 3 hours and already the battery is less than half full. I have emailed Amazon about this as it surely can't be right.
Other than that I would recommend this MP3 player to anybody who is looking for an easy to use device with great sound, plenty of storage and nice displays on the screen. It is a little bulky maybe for some people but I quite like that it feels substantial and of good quality.
Don't look any futher - I would definately buy one of these again.
Lovely looker, nice screen, and great value .......... - 09 Jan 2006

This is my first MP3 player and I chose this after a good bit of research.
I am very happy with this player so far.
Plus points :
1)Looks great - nice silver finish, though the acryllic casing is yellowing slightly - not really noticeable though
2)Huge screen - this makes such a difference to the look and feel of a player. The screen is the largest of any MP3 player I can find, and the colours are lovely. Photos are easily loaded onto the player and look great on the screen
3)Nice sound - well it sounds great to me anyway, though I cannot compare to other MP3s
4)Menu software is well designed and easy to navigate
5)"Plus" control buttons are nice enough to use
6)Price !!! 10GB player (more than enough for me) with huge screen and good build quality, for £130 ... and Amazon delivered it super fast too ... can you beat that ? 20GB player is available for £175 but not worth it for me
Negative points (minor only)
1)PC software supplied is not well designed
2)Headphones are not great - bit sore after a while (so am buying some Sennheisers)
All in all - 9/10
